Dedicated to upholding the legacy of the original Buffalo Soldiers, enacted in 1866, the TBSMC actively engage in public service events and programs to enhance community life. With a focus on youth empowerment, we deliver educational presentations highlighting the rich heritage and significant contributions of both the Cavalry and Infantry Buffalo Soldiers in shaping and protecting the United States.
Beyond community outreach, we undertake missions related to motorcycles, known as Iron Ponies, and provide humanitarian assistance in times of need. Guided by our motto, “We Can, We Will, Ready and Forward, In Deeds, Not Words,” we embody the spirit of action and service. Join us as we continue the noble legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers, making a tangible impact through our unwavering commitment to community and country.

Preparing for Disasters and Emergencies
Be Ready for Emergencies: Preparedness is Key
Surviving a disaster, whether natural or man-made, hinges on your preparedness. From earthquakes to fires, floods to power outages, being ready can make all the difference in your survival. That’s why during September, National Preparedness Month, the Toledo Buffalo Soldiers host community workshops focused on disaster and emergency preparedness.
These workshops provide vital information on how to prepare for various disasters and how to assemble a preparedness kit for both your home and car. To learn more and ensure you’re ready for whatever comes your way, visit ready.gov today. Don’t wait until it’s too late—be prepared and stay safe.
No More Violence
Join us at TBSMC for upcoming events focused on building collaborative partnerships between the community and law enforcement. Together, we can create safer and more resilient communities.
Our events emphasize the importance of collaboration between the private and public sectors, showcasing adults and police officers working together to set positive examples for our children and enhance neighborhood security.
Engage with young people in positive events to foster shared experiences that strengthen friendships and reduce bullying and youth violence. These activities serve as effective relationship builders, contributing to a safer community environment.
Attend our “What to Do When Stopped by Police” workshop, where we stress the importance of compliance for everyone’s safety. Remember, comply first, and address concerns later through proper channels. Confrontation on the streets achieves nothing and can escalate tensions.
Through interactive learning exercises, you will gain insights into the challenges faced by police officers. You will also understand their perspective and the importance of compliance in maintaining public safety.
Join us in building a safer and more cohesive community. Together, we can make a difference. “I need you, you need me, we need each other!”
This workshop, conducted in partnership with the University of Toledo, the Junction Coalition, the Restorative Justice program, and the Toledo Police Division’s Community Service Section, unfolds in two distinct phases. Its goal is to educate participants on effective interactions with law enforcement.
Phase One
The initial phase utilizes a PowerPoint presentation supplemented with live videos to deliver essential information. Participants are guided through key aspects of police officers’ responsibilities, including the reasons for stops, expected conduct during interactions, and crucial safety measures. Practical tips such as turning on interior lights during nighttime stops and minimizing distractions are emphasized. The importance of clear communication and compliance with officer requests is underscored, with live video demonstrations illustrating the significance of cooperation.
Phase Two
The second phase immerses participants in interactive role-playing activities. Set in a staged car environment, participants assume the roles of drivers and police officers. Through scripted scenarios, participants experience the outcomes of compliant and non-compliant behaviors firsthand. Participants gain valuable insights and learn de-escalation techniques by engaging in these role-plays, contributing to safer interactions between citizens and law enforcement.
Acknowledgments
Special thanks are extended to the University of Toledo students for their invaluable contributions to the workshop’s success.
"Operation Shut-In" on Veterans Day
Every November 11th, the Toledo Buffalo Soldiers organize “Operation Shut-In” to honor home-bound veterans due to medical restrictions. This initiative, launched in 2016, aims to ensure that these Veterans receive meals on Veterans Day despite their inability to leave their homes.
Partnering with Lucas County Veteran Services, Paramount Advantage, Ohio Army National Guard, WSPD 1370 Radio, and local restaurants, we coordinate the delivery of meals to home-bound Veterans throughout the area. Our efforts extend as far as Bowling Green, reaching both Veterans and their caretakers.
Beyond providing meals, “Operation Shut-In” offers companionship and camaraderie to Veterans as they enjoy the company of fellow service members and community volunteers who visit them. Serving these American heroes is a deeply fulfilling experience, and we extend our gratitude to all the volunteers who assist in meal deliveries.
Special thanks are also due to Clear Channel WSPD 1370 Radio for their support and to the Ohio Army National Guard for providing space for our Operating Center. It’s an honor to serve those who have served our country, and we express our heartfelt thanks to all Veterans for their service.
