Water Crisis Leads To Drinking Water Shortage

On August 2, 2014, Toledo, Ohio, and its neighboring communities faced a severe water crisis affecting over 400,000 residents due to elevated toxin levels in the water supply. This crisis persisted for nearly a week before the drinking water ban was lifted.
TBSMC swiftly responded to the urgent need. On the first day of the crisis, they traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana, and acquired a trailer load of bottled water for distribution in Toledo.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the TBSMC reached out to fellow Buffalo Soldier chapters in the Great Lakes Frontier region for assistance. Within hours, members from the Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, and West Virginia chapters arrived with trailers and trucks loaded with bottled water.
The Toledo chapter established an Incident Command Center at the Pathway For Successful Leadership facility, a valued partner of the Toledo Public School System and the community.
Teaming up with United Way, the Buffalo Soldiers organized the distribution of water to the elderly and disabled veterans who were confined to their homes. United Way directed the deliveries to specific target areas, and the Buffalo Soldiers made 123 deliveries, providing 182 cases of bottled water.
At TBSMC, we express our sincere gratitude to all the Buffalo Soldier chapters and partners involved in this humanitarian effort, including P4SL and United Way, for their unwavering support and collaboration during this critical time.
